Polititoe

Today’s sheet

What’s new

Every change to Polititoe since Issue No. 1, newest first.

Issue No. 3

New

Answers

  • Every US vice president and every prime minister of India and Canada now counts, as do the Soviet and Swiss presidencies, shahs, Ottoman sultans, emirs and the Sultan of Brunei.
  • Added the King of Albania, the chairs of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Michael Collins’s provisional government, and the premierships of Malawi and the Palestinian Authority.

Issue No. 2

New

  • The game has a name: Polititoe.

Fixed

  • On iPhone, your result and the Copy button could stay invisible after the last guess until you reloaded.
  • On phones, finishing a sheet brings your result into view, the search stays clear of the keyboard, and the page behind a dialog no longer scrolls.
  • On a tablet held sideways, the note sits beside the sheet, so nothing needs a scroll.
  • A link straight to the archive or to a past issue opens that page instead of today’s sheet.
  • Empty squares show up in the result preview, in dark mode too.
  • Long categories break between syllables on narrow phones.

Answers

  • “In office in the 1900s” now reads “In office 1900-1909” (and the same for 2000-2009), so it can’t be taken for the whole century.
  • Corrections to answers reach you as soon as they are published, not up to an hour later.

Issue No. 1

New

  • Issue No. 1 is out.
  • A right answer shows its stamp number, your run of hits and a fact about the space. Sheets of 7 or more get a commemorative cachet.
  • A finished sheet earns a title, from Blank sheet to Mint sheet, and suggests names to try for the spaces left open.
  • Shared results show the difficulty and the face value, so equal scores can still be compared.
  • The answer list for a space can show every answer, not only the top 12.

Fixed

  • On 320px phones the sheet no longer spills off the side of the screen.

Answers

  • 363 heads of state and government that were missing now count, among them the prime ministers of the Kingdom of Italy, French Presidents of the Council and Soviet premiers after 1946.
  • New category: state or provincial governor, for the US, Mexico, Brazil, Nigeria, India and Argentina.
  • Added the emperors of Ethiopia, the kings of Bulgaria, the shahs of Iran, Bao Dai and others the data had missed.
  • Typos in source dates no longer put people in the wrong decade.
